Texas Pet Overpopulation

What Texas Shelter Data Says About Pet Overpopulation.

Texas shelters are making progress, but too many dogs and cats still enter a system with more animals than available homes. PETS Clinic works earlier in that cycle through affordable spay and neuter, preventive care, and practical support for families.

What Prevention Means

Shelter Outcomes Begin Long Before an Animal Reaches a Shelter.

Shelter teams, rescue groups, foster families, adopters, and animal-control staff all carry part of the lifesaving work. Prevention carries another part. When affordable spay and neuter is available before an unplanned litter happens, fewer animals need a shelter placement in the first place.

This is not about blaming pet owners or shelters. Cost, transportation, clinic access, and limited appointment availability are real barriers. PETS Clinic exists to make practical prevention easier to reach.

PETS Clinic's Role

Local Clinics. More Than 100,000 Procedures Since 2007.

PETS Clinic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit veterinary organization serving North Texas, the Panhandle, and the South Plains. Clinic fees cover part of the cost. Donations, grants, volunteers, and community partners help close the rest of the gap so more families can use the care.
