P.E.T.S. Year in Review

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We will be launching a community wide fundraiser next week. Sadly, we have an urgent need that must be addressed over the holiday. Our septic system has failed and we must tie into the city sewer to resolve this problem. We do mountains of laundry every day in addition to our sterilization, general cleaning, handwashing, and of course restrooms. We decided to combine this need with our annual Clinic Sponsorships that are displayed on our Wall of Honor at the clinic and pray we can reach our increased goal of $60,000.00. Our clinic sponsorships help us offset the cost of surgery for clients in between grant cycles, make minor repairs and maintain our property and equipment, along with financing our awesome programs like Chain-Off, Hounds Habitat, and P.E.T.S. Pantry. We outlined our 10 biggest achievements below hoping you will find it in your heart and pocket book to be a #petshero and donate to our upcoming campaign.

2015 was a monumental year at P.E.T.S. We were voted Texoma’s Best Vet Clinic. We won the Cat Crusaders Award from Best Friends. We broke records, created new ones, and are already setting our goals for 2016. Here are some of the reasons we hope we made it on your Christmas List this year.

1. We spayed and neutered 7310 cats and dogs this year bringing our total spays and neuters to 33,345. We hired a 3rd vet, expanded our clinic days, and prevented the birth of 500,175 unwanted litters in our community. Fewer pets born means fewer euthanized.

2. We doubled our P.E.T.S. Pantry assistance. In 2014, we helped approximately 75 pets each month but during 2015 we helped feed over 150. This increase can be attributed to our Out-Reach which ensures pet owners are aware of the resources available to them to help them care for their beloved pets. Please remember that income has nothing to do with a pet owner’s ability to love their pet.

3. We have freed 133 dogs from life on a chain since launching our Chain-Of program. We have built over 70 fences ending the year with one of the most touching stories of all. If you missed Blue’s amazing first moments of freedom or his sweet story, please visit our Chain-Off page.

Adequate shelter is the only thing standing between survial and death during our extreme Texas winters. Shout out to the skilled carpentry students at Carrigan Career Center for building our dog houses and Dental Planet for donating coolers for us to use as cat shelters.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”9323″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”9321″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

5. We help our local rescues and shelters save lives by providing preventative care and surgeries at cost so that they may spread their precious resources further and help more pets. Our combined efforts resulted in almost 1000 more pets saved during 2015 than 2014.

6. PETS paid for full service vetting needs for several pets this year. This prevented pet owners from relinquishing their pets and helped end a pet’s suffering by providing the care it needed. We also assisted with 2 pet deposits so that pet owners did not have to relinquish their pets when forced to move.

7. We hosted our first ever Pet Fest and served over 194 pet owners and 363 pets. As a result more than 300 pets were sterilized, vaccinated, and issued city tags.

8. PETS spear headed NKWF, No-Kill Wichita Falls, movement that unified all area animal welfare groups. Our community unity reversed the horrible trend of 2014 and made great progress in 2015. Our 5 year plan for 10% or less euthanasia is on track. You will have to wait until January to learn how much progress we made… and you won’t be disappointed!

9. Our staff and volunteers give back. We assist with transport, foster pets, and collect coats and hygiene items for humans. We go above and beyond for all living things from catching an injured goose to transporting a boa constrictor to safety. All lives matters and the greatness of a nation can indeed be judged on how we treat those that can not care for themselves.

10. We know how to have a good time. Our fun spirit helps prevent burnout and volunteer fatigue. In 2015, we hosted a flash mob and made 2 music videos. P.E.T.S. is a positive influence in Wichita Falls. We unify groups, bring together all kinds of people, and make the dollars we are given stretch as far as possible. Donations to P.E.T.S. go directly to our awesome programs that improve the quality of life for pets in our community. Before P.E.T.S. was born over 10,000 unwanted animals were taken in Wichita Falls. From January-November 2015 only 4612 unwanted pets were taken in.
